Classes 20, 21: Showmanship

Filming Sheet or announce yourself verbally to the camera

This class judges the handler's ability to present their horse, not the horse's conformation. It's a test of the handler's skill, preparation, and control.

What the Judge Looks For:

  • The Handler: Poise, professional appearance, control, and precision while performing a pattern.

  • The Team: How well the horse responds to the handler's subtle cues. The horse should look polished, clean, and willing.

What is Required of the Horse and Handler:

  • The Horse: Must be well trained on the ground, performing maneuvers like precise stops, pivots, backing up a specific number of steps, and setting up its feet quickly and correctly.

  • The Handler: Must execute a specific pattern accurately and professionally, often while being positioned in a way (called the Quarter Method) that keeps them between the horse and the judge without obstructing the view.
